On Piedmont Road in Buckhead you will find Kyma, a highly lauded Greek restaurant with chef Pano I. Karatassos at the helm in the kitchen. What you will not find on the very same site is the Midas repair shop that was transformed by The Johnson Studio and Palmer Engineering into 5,000 square feet of striking blue and white lobby, bar, and dining rooms. If the decor doesn’t remind you of a classic Greek seaside, the food (and the ouzo) definitely will.
PEC designed thorough structural renovations to the existing building to upgrade it for current codes, open up existing masonry walls, and implement Bill Johnson’s vision for Kyma. That vision includes most notably the twin marble columns standing sentinel beside the front doors. Each is nearly 17’ tall, and each weighs more than 5 tons. We designed a deep foundation system to ensure proper support and minimize the potential for cracking due to possible soils settlement, so think of us on your way in to our slice of the Aegean in Atlanta.
