Bill Johnson and the accomplished design team at The Johnson Studio are renowned for creating memorable restaurants, with over 400 projects completed in Atlanta, around the country, and beyond. They are not shy about challenging us, whether it’s a unique wine tower, indoor drive-up valet, or soaring ceiling, and the transformation they designed for ecco is no exception.
The contrast between the original rundown building on 7th street and the finished restaurant with its cantilevered entry roof and glass vestibule, an oversized and elegant bar, a large open-air patio, and beautiful dining rooms could hardly be more impressive. Largely hidden from diners’ view are the structural upgrades for wind and seismic resistance, roof reinforcing to carry serious kitchen mechanical units, and the thin structural system that floats the entry roof above the distinctive ecco sign.
