Currahee is a Cherokee word meaning “Stands Alone.” Thanks to Clay Ulmer and the talented architects at NCG, experienced developers Bob and Chris Whitley, and Palmer Engineering Company the new golf clubhouse at Currahee does just that. The bar is high at this luxury second home and vacation community overlooking Lake Hartwell - after all, this is a community with an official Director of Fun on staff.
Golf clubhouses are pound for pound some of the most complex buildings we design. Nothing stacks, ceilings soar, and welcoming lounges, grilles, and restaurants make very different demands from functional kitchens, cart storage, and freezers and coolers. From top to bottom, this building incorporates pre-engineered wood roof trusses and stick framing, structural steel beams with tube steel braced frames, a conventionally reinforced elevated concrete slab with cantilevered balconies and depressions for stone floor finishes, and reinforced concrete columns and foundation walls.
With golf by Jim Fazio, spectacular views, the lake, the mountains, a Director of Fun and an NCG / PEC clubhouse, Currahee does indeed stand alone. www.curraheeclub.com
