PEC upgraded an existing building in very poor condition to house ecco, named a “Best New Restaurant in America” by Esquire magazine.  We retrofitted the existing building to comply with current codes for wind and seismic resistance, developed a creative solution for the entry element - providing a thin profile roof with cantilevers on all four sides, and reinforced the roof to support heavy kitchen equipment.  Hungry? Kyma

Before The Johnson Studio and Palmer Engineering transformed it into a “contemporary Greek seafood tavern” and one of Atlanta’s highest rated restaurants, the building that is now Kyma was an automobile repair shop.  Don’t tell anyone.  PEC designed comprehensive structural renovations, including creative lintel designs to enlarge existing openings and a deep foundation system to support the solid marble entry columns weighing 5 tons each.  www.buckheadrestaurants.com/kyma.html

Rathbun's

In many cases, the architecture and structural design are focal points of PEC projects.  At Rathbun’s, the renovated warehouse space is striking and appealing, but we are proud to say that it pales beside the accolades garnered by chef Kevin Rathbun and his nationally renowned restaurant.  Perhaps our structural design played a small part in inspiring Kevin and his brother Kent to victory on  Iron Chef America.  Check out www.rathbunsrestaurant.com to see Kevin’s work and ours.

Six Feet Under

Atlanta, GA
Architect:
Seiber Design
Project:
On top of PEC’s conversion of an existing industrial office and garage, the new 1,900 square foot roof deck offers terrific views of the Atlanta skyline and progress on our White Provision project.  Primary deck framing uses steel beams and columns - the support layout is odd so that new columns could be unobtrusive in the main restaurant below.  Bracing for lateral loads and deep foundations on fill added to the structural challenges.  The only challenge now is what to order - perhaps an Oyster Shooter?  www.sixfeetunder.net

Two Urban Licks

Location:
Atlanta, GA
Architect:
The Johnson Studio
Project:
One of Atlanta’s busiest (and best) restaurants, Two Urban Licks occupies 4000 square feet of former warehouse space with a number of structural upgrades and innovative solutions.  A drive through courtyard added inside the original building necessitated clever lateral reinforcing of the exterior wall, and the unique wine keg tower is carried by an equally unusual structural system, but don’t worry, we’ll understand if the food and atmosphere distract you from these design features.  www.twourbanlicks.com/index-home.htm
