1898 Memorial Paddle
Location:
Wilmington, NC
Artist:
Ayokunle Odeleye
Project:
The 1898 Memorial Park is intended to “bring remembrance, healing and hope” to Wilmington, North Carolina, more than 100 years after the race riots that overthrew the biracial city government and devastated the previously prosperous black community. Ayokunle Odeleye designed 11 figures in the shape of African paddles, each 16 feet tall to symbolize, educate, and inspire. Palmer Engineering Company designed the structures with bronze skins over stainless steel skeletons with an eye toward ease of construction, durability, and low maintenance and to resist Wilmington’s hurricane design winds.

Fans of the Olympics will recognize icons representing each sport, and visitors to the US Olympic Training Facility will find larger than life size versions designed by Palmer Engineering throughout the campus. Each two dimensional figure portrays athletes in action in bright, monochromatic poses. Our aluminum tennis player, for example, touches the ground only at the tip of his shoes in mid serve, perhaps offering a bit of inspiration to the athletes who have so inspired all of us.
Spiderman - Universal Studios
Location:
Universal Studios, Orlando, FL
Fabricator:
Architectural Image Manufacturers
Project:
Stan Lee’s superhero packs incredible punch in a 6’ frame. Our version at Universal Studios clings to the side of the Spiderman Adventure attraction with a slightly larger frame - 60’ long to be exact. Touching the building at just six locations, this three dimensional figure has an aluminum skin on an aluminum tube skeleton. Our Spidey covers 60’x20’ and leans out from the building at 25 degrees, ready to spring just like Peter Parker’s smaller alter ego.
