Award Winning City of Decatur Fire Station No. 2

The Fire Station No.2 for the City of Decatur is a two story fire house with two apparatus bays, living quarters, offices, and all appropriate support spaces. PEC’s structural design incorporates reinforced masonry, reinforced concrete, structural steel and bar joist floor and roof framing, and aluminum tube framing with glass panels for entry and shade awnings and for the two story signature tower. The finished structure will create a clean, modern look with a clear presence but without clashing with the surrounding neighborhood.

The Decatur Historic Preservation Commission agrees.  In May, the DHPC awarded the project with Excellence in Design for New Construction.  Fire Station No. 2, designed by Decatur architecture firm LP3, also received LEED Silver Certification from the US Green Building Council.  (http://www.usgbcga.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=156)

These two awards show that Fire Station No. 2 was designed from the past and designed for the future.
